Ideas for Making a Valentine Gift Basket For Your Special Someone

By Charlene Sim

Valentine's Day is almost certainly the romantic highlight of the year. Most people choose to express their love on this day with a special gift. If you want to make a big impression on your loved one, you should make a Valentine gift basket. You can fill it with special treats and presents to show your love and caring. It's much more personal than the usual roses and chocolates.

But that doesn't mean you can't fill the basket with these things. Chocolates and flowers are both great ideas for adding to a Valentine gift basket. Buy some fine imported chocolate and arrange it in a pretty basket. Add a cute and cuddly stuffed toy, and lay a single red rose on top. Wrap it in cellophane, tie it with a red ribbon and decorate with some heart decorations. Simple perfection.

If you'd like to go to some trouble to really impress your significant other, there are lots of other ideas for what to put in a Valentine gift basket. Consider a basket loaded up with spa bath products. You can add a heart shaped candle, the latest bestseller and a bottle of wine for a luxurious bath basket. Perfume and heart shaped jewelry are favorites with most women, and you can easily present these in a decorative basket.

If you're planning a gift basket for a man, it's not really that much different. Fill a basket with toiletry products like cologne, aftershave, and deodorant in a favorite fragrance. You could buy an elegant watch and place it on top of a basket filled with his favorite candy. And you're almost guaranteed of pleasing if you stuff a basket full of his favorite snacks and wedge in a couple bottles of that specialty beer he likes.

A really innovative idea is to make up a Valentine's Day "dinner in a basket". Don't got out to a crowded restaurant; stay home and savor an intimate dinner in private. You'll need to use something the size of picnic basket. Load it up with all the ingredients necessary to make your favorite meal. Also include a bottle of wine, a gourmet dessert and a romantic candle. It's only right that you offer to cook, but it will be so much more special if you prepare the meal together.

Don't forget to attach a card to your gift basket. If you've got some talent, make one yourself that expresses your feelings. Otherwise, look for a truly meaningful card, and then write a few lines about your feelings.

Making a personal gift basket for Valentine's Day can really showcase your creativity. And there's nothing wrong with using the Valentine's Day staples like chocolate in your basket. You'll have impressed your special person with your thoughtfulness and the trouble you went to.
